Thank you so much for considering adding a horse in need to your life. We know that horses require a significant commitment of time, love and resources. We want you to know that we take the process of matching horses with their adopters very seriously.
If you are a first time horse owner, we are happy to help you learn all you need to know. Whether you are looking to adopt, are interested in horses, or just got one and still have questions, our first time horse owners’ list is a great resource and we highly recommend volunteering with us to get some experience.
Howey Horse Haven Rescue (HHHR) works hard to ensure adopted horses are placed into forever homes. We receive horses for numerous reasons, which means we have horses looking for homes who vary greatly in age, gender, training and life experiences.
Adoption Process
Whether an HHHR rescue has already stolen your heart or if you’re just wanting to learn about the process, here’s what you need to know.
Application donation
We do ask for a $20.00, non-refundable, home inspection/application donation in order to process your application. This fee will be credited toward your adoption donation.
Complete adoption application
Submit an adoption application. The application is located at the bottom of this page. It is very important to HHHR that we match the right horse with the right home. Please provide as much detail as possible.
Meet our equines
Then, provided your application is approved, you’ll need to come out and meet with our available equines. This is to ensure that you and the equine(s) will be a good match. If we don’t have a equine that suits your needs now, we can place you on a waiting list.
Home check
Once you have visited and gotten a chance to decide on your equine(s), we will then perform a home check. This is not a “white-glove” test. We simply want to make sure the home is safe for our equines.
Adoption Contract
The last step is to complete the adoption contract and, finally, you get to bring your new best friends(s) home!
